5 Seconds

In five seconds, my life changed forever. While I didn’t completely comprehend the event, I did recognize the ingredients: altitude, Martini’s and powder. This concoction has forever shaped my life.

The powder, or the skiing, was easy. I was madly in love with skiing by age 6. I raced, I powdered, I jumped. I was the rare kid that had to be bribed with hot cocoa and Snickers bars to come in from skiing, not continue in the cold.

Then I saw Warren Miller’s “Ski Country” in 1984. The world was suddenly unlocked. I skied Rossignol, I skied Squaw Valley. And as Miller said “Hang on tight, we are coming to get you.”
